Bill Murray has finally read the script to Ghostbusters 3. He liked it so much that he reportedly shredded it and sent it back to Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman, attaching the message: “No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts!”
This is reported by multiple movie news websites.
This may be true, or it may not. It’s a good story, anyway.
What seems clear is that Murray doesn’t want to appear in Ghostbusters 3, which is fine with us – but he also has to sign off on it if it is to be made. He is one of the right-holders to the franchise, and without his approval, the movie can’t be made. So he’s got that going for him.
He’s wrong, though. Lots of people want to see old ghostbusters doing their thing. We certainly do.

So, Bill Murray not giving any answers about whether or not he wants to be a part of Ghostbusters 3 does not mean that he’s in a coma. He has joined the cast of A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III, a Charlie Sheen vehicle that will possibly be out next year. The Roman Coppola-directed movie is in production right now.
That seems to mean that Murray is fully capable of agreeing to movies he likes the sound of, so it does appear as if he will never give any word one way or the other on Ghostbusters 3. It will likely have to go on without him, if that’s even legally possible.
That does not bode well for Ghostbusters 3 – it makes it less likely that it will be made, and it means that if it does see the light of day, it may well suck. Murray is a major part of the entire Ghostbusters franchise.
Hey, there’s still hope. But right now, it’s not looking good.

So Sigourney Weaver, who played Dana Barrett in both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2, has talked briefly to ComingSoon. We’ll skip over her Avatar comments and go straight to what interests us – her comments about Ghostbusters 3:
“I have yet to read the script,” she said. “I’ve had a couple of calls and I know they’re rewriting and all I said was that I hope my son, Oscar, has grown up to be a Ghostbuster and Ivan Reitman said yes. Beyond that, I have no idea. I hope it comes together, but we already did two wonderful films and, if we have to let this one go, that’s fine.”
So she knows just as little as everyone else, and there’s nothing new. Bill Murray is still holding everything up by not giving any answer one way or the other. Just thought you’d like to know.
